Zong Liu

Dr. Zong Liu is an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering at Texas A&M University and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. He is a nationally recognized expert in manure and mortality management, and a recipient of the 2025 NSF Faculty Early Career Development Award. Dr. Liu delivers science-based education and outreach activities to producers and communities across Texas and beyond. He leads multiple research projects funded by USDA (NRCS, NIFA, and APHIS), FFAR, and other federal, state, and private funding agencies, and also holds leadership roles at the state and national levels.

Dr. Liu leads Extension education and research programs with state-wide scope, focusing on the challenges facing animal facilities in the state of Texas. He delivers educational materials on animal waste management technologies, water and air quantity impacts, value-added processing (including energy extraction), and regulatory issues. Zong conducts and reports animal waste management demonstrations, develops a mission-oriented research program, and provides professional development opportunities to County Agents, Program Specialists, and private industry practitioners. He disseminate Extension education materials using conventional, web-based communication, and virtual reallity inspired technologies. He also, published research results in peer-reviewed journals. His programs support through extramural funding and service to the department, agencies, trade groups, and professional societies. Zong develops a working relationship with industry, fellow Texas A&M University System faculty, federal/state/regional agencies, and trade associations.
